Every student deserves a school where they feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
Learning begins when students walk into a building where they are known, welcomed and able to focus on the work ahead.
This year, RPS 205 is reinforcing two expectations that support safer schools and stronger classrooms:
Middle and high school students must wear their school-issued ID throughout the school day.
Students will use district-issued devices during instructional time, while cell phones and other personal devices remain put away.
These expectations are straightforward, but they have a real impact. IDs help staff know who is in our buildings and respond quickly when something does not look right.
Limiting personal devices during class helps students stay present and gives teachers more time to teach.
Student IDs
Every middle and high school student is expected to wear a school-issued ID when entering the building and throughout the day. This year, IDs will also include mental health resources on the back so students can quickly find support when they need it.
Cell Phones and Personal Devices
During instructional time, students will use district-issued technology for learning. Cell phones, smartwatches used for communication, AirPods, Beats and other wireless headphones must remain put away unless they are part of an approved accommodation as written in an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Section 504 Plan.
These expectations help students build healthy learning habits and prepare for a new Illinois law that will limit personal electronic device use during class beginning in the 2027–2028 school year.
Middle school students will keep personal devices stored from the first bell through the last bell. Each school will share its specific storage procedures.
High school students may use personal devices during passing periods and lunch. During class, phones and other personal devices will be stored in locations identified by each school.
Wearing an ID and putting phones away during class are small actions, but they help create the kind of school day every student deserves.
