Conklin Academy has officially joined the ranks of International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools — a global community committed to providing high-quality, challenging, and international education. This recognition marks the culmination of years of professional training, planning, and collaboration by Conklin’s staff, who remain dedicated to continuous learning and curriculum refinement.
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Conklin is designed to develop the whole child — academically, socially, emotionally, and culturally — through inquiry-based learning. Students gain a global mindset by learning to understand and respect different cultures and perspectives. The program connects learning across subjects through real-world themes, helping students see the relevance of their education beyond the classroom.
The PYP also emphasizes the IB Learner Profile — ten key attributes such as being principled, caring, reflective, and open-minded. Students are encouraged to ask questions, take action in their community, and reflect on their learning, building ownership and agency in their education.
IB authorization strengthens the school community by fostering deep partnerships between school, home, and the wider community. It also signals Conklin’s commitment to rigorous standards, evidence-based practices, and continuous improvement.
Looking Ahead
Teachers in the K-5 PYP will continue refining their transdisciplinary units to best meet student needs.
Conklin Academy will apply for candidacy for the IB Middle Years Programme this fall, aiming for authorization by spring 2027.
Construction has begun on a new addition — expected to be complete by summer 2026 — that will house 6th–8th grade IB students and feature a new gym, cafeteria, and multiple inquiry-focused classrooms.
